Education and Youth Resilience

Strengthening Education in Utah Communities

Cities Strong Foundation aligns schools, families, and neighborhoods into a connected system of support. Through our partnership with Leader in Me—delivered by FranklinCovey—and the State of Utah, we are working to reach nearly 40 schools, primarily in myHometown communities.

This proven, in-school model helps students build confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills, while myHometown Community Resource Centers extend that impact beyond the classroom through literacy support, tutoring, mentorship, and family-centered resources—creating a continuous system that connects learning at school with support in the neighborhood.

Cities Strong Foundation is proud to partner with Leader in Me, Franklin Covey, and myHometown to support children in Utah.

Serving Your Neighborhood Schools

Neighbors helping neighbors can extend into local schools! Utah communities are full of kids, classrooms, and teachers who could use a little help. Through school-based math and literacy support programs or at Community Resource Centers along the Wasatch Front, there are many opportunities for a helpful volunteer to make an impact.

How We Support Utah Schools

We build connections between schools, community efforts, families, and neighborhoods. Cities Strong Foundation helps align funding, partners, and volunteers to expand leadership programming, strengthen literacy and learning support, and create more opportunities for students to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Why It Matters

myHometown builds strong neighborhood hubs, but lasting change requires reaching students during the school day. By integrating Leader in Me into schools and reinforcing it through literacy, mentorship, and family engagement in the community, we create a unified pipeline of support. This alignment increases academic success, strengthens families, and builds long-term pathways for upward mobility—especially in communities where support is needed most.

Our Role

As a backbone organization, Cities Strong Foundation brings together schools, the State of Utah, FranklinCovey, philanthropic partners, nonprofits, and volunteers to align resources and scale impact. We focus on coordination, funding, and ecosystem support—ensuring educators and community partners can do their best work while reaching more students.

In 2025–26, we launched Leader in Me in 6 schools across the Wasatch Front. With support from the Utah Legislature, a $1M investment from an out-of-state foundation, and a $1M commitment from Cities Strong Foundation, we are expanding to nearly 40 schools—primarily in myHometown communities. If your school is interested, contact info@citiesstrong.org (Participation is funding-dependent and focused in Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Ogden, Layton, Provo, Orem, and Santaquin).
